Deck this Austin Winter (2019)

5 fun plans to enjoy wintertime at Atx

Winter is coming to Austin, and can see the holiday spirit popping up all over the place. The temperature starts to decrease, and it's finally time to find some places to warm up that Christmas spirit! (We all know that you have it).

Despite Texas's usual warm weather, the coldest days of the year are just around the corner. And if you are a native Austinite, we know the feeling: when Jack Frost arrives, all we might want to do is stay under a cozy mountain of blankets catching up on Netflix, but if you feel like going for an adventure, we got your back!

Here at the PURE family, we don't only identify ourselves as "Apartment Locators": We are also Austin City Lovers! One of those restless friends who genuinely enjoy finding fantastic things to do in the city. So that's why we have prepared a winter bucket list to get you out of your bed. Enjoy these 5 fun activities, plans, and events to do at Austin during the Winter.

1- Walk across the Trail of lights

This family-friendly event will return to Austin for its 55th year to Zilker Park. From December 10 to the 23, you could enjoy more than 40 displays and 2 million Christmas lights with your beloved ones.

There will also be special nights, food-trucks, parties, and more. Don't miss a single detail of this celebration, visit austintrailoflights.org.

2- Go ice skating at Whole Foods

We all know that Austin doesn't have the coldest weather in America, but that's not an excuse to avoid Ice Skating rinks.

You can head over to the Whole Foods Market flagship store on Downtown 6th street and Lamar for an Ice Skating Session on the rooftop plaza. After testing your skating skills, you could enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of cocoa from the bar, to complete a perfect Holiday date.

3 - Watch a holiday play

Christmas plays are one of the best ways to connect with our inner child. Winter season is +all ages, and Austin is the ideal place to create some beautiful memories.

From November 20 to December 29, you could watch the magic of "A Christmas Carol" come to life at Zach Theatre off South Lamar. This rocking show will provide a modern twist of the Charles Dickens classic tale, so we warn you: you'd not see the regular play. For more details visit Zachtheatre.org.

Another classic that will be rocking the stages this Winter season is "The Nutcracker". From December 7 to December 22, watch Ballet Austin perform a family-friendly show for the 57th year at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Check out balletaustin.org for more details.

4- Enjoy a film festival

Winter Season is the perfect time to go to the movies. Why? Because of all the must-watch Christmas movies and all the cool festivals that are coming around town.

From December 10 to 14, you could enjoy some of the best international music videos at the Austin Music Video Festival. It's going to be 5 days of parties, workshops, and world premiers at some of Austin's funkiest venues.

If you're more into going to a Movie Theater and warming up your Christmas Spirit, you could catch some Christmas films at Alamo Drafthouse. Keep an eye on their movie listings to not miss a single one drafthouse.com.

5- Grab a seasonal cocktail at Nickel city

One of the most enjoyable things about the Winter season is seeing how Austin transforms from an urban city into a trail of lights. Year by year, we found ourselves amazed by all the winter decorations and how much effort small to big businesses put into bringing more light to the city.

One of your faves it's Nickel city. It's awesome. It's on the eastside. It feels unlike any other bar in the city and you're gonna love it! You'll not only feel Christmas from the inside out, but you could also sip some seasonal cocktails and become part of epic winter parties like Sippin Santa. PLUS: Dance around the city during a Free Music Week

We know that this might be too far away, but mark your calendars for on the first week of January the Red River Cultural District would feature more tan 180 bands playing FREE shows at some of the coolest venues around the city.

We hope this list helps you to spend the most fantastic Winter of all. From the PURE Apartment Locating team, we would like to thank everyone who has chosen us to be their apartment locators, and as 2020 approaches, we are looking forward to meeting some new faces.
