9 fun plans to enjoy autumn in the city
It's Fall y'all, and we couldn't be more excited. From the sweet pumpkin flavors and Halloween celebrations to the rocking seasonal and fresh air, we love EVERYTHING about this season.
The weather begins to cool down and 2020 it's right around the corner, which means we have our last chance to create some wonderful 2019 memories.
As apartment locators, we not only love to find the most amazing deals, but we are also huge fans of Austin's good vibes and our team genuinely enjoys finding fantastic things to do in the city. So that’s why we have prepared a list of 9 fun plans, festivals, and events to enjoy this Fall more than ever!
1- Turn the beat up at ACL Music Festival 2019
If you're a huge fan of indie rock or you just love the cool vibes of a music festival, the Austin City Limits it's going to be a MUST on your bucket list.
Enjoy 2 weekends of fantastic performances from Guns N' Roses to Mumford & Sons, Childish Gambino, Billie Eilish, Tame Impala and more! This fall festival will take place on Friday, October 4 to Sunday, October 6, and then on October 11 to October 13, at the marvelous Zilker Park. Tickets are available at www.aclfestival.com
2- Have a couple of beer rounds at Oktoberfest
On the other hand, if you are more the type of person who enjoys having a pint with friends, you shouldn't miss at least one of the Oktoberfest events. It's the perfect opportunity to celebrate Texas' German heritage while tasting different types of beers and sausages.
At the top of our list is AustOberfest, an annual event named as “one of the best Oktoberfests in America” by Food & Wine Magazine. This festival reunites the best of German gastronomy with lots of brews, contest stage games, bowling, and live music. This year's edition will take place on September 28. For more details, you can visit www.austoberfest.com.
You can also save the date for Wurstfest, an Oktoberfest celebration held at New Braunfels, from November 1 to 10, with loads of Alpine and Bavarian-style entertainment.
3- Enjoy the fresh fall air with some outdoor activities.
Fall is the best season for going outside. Weather is fresh but not as cold as winter, and it's finally not 100º outside. For some outdoor fun, you can take a canoe ride around Lady Bird Lake, go biking at the Barton Creek Greenbelt, gaze one of the most fantastic city views at Mount Bonnell, or contemplate the marvelous colors of fall foliage at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
If you are more into an adventure, this also is the perfect time of the year for camping activities. Pick the ideal spot to spend the night by the rushing waterfalls and blossoming wildflowers of McKinney Falls State Park or at the 5,212-acre wonderland of Pedernales Falls State Park at the Texas Hill Country.
4 - Find the perfect pumpkin at the Fall Festival
Pumpkin patches are the best excuse to take a trip and explore some of the best Austin Texas farms. You can pick your own pumpkins at Sweet Berry Farm or even lose yourself into the 5-acre corn maze in the Fall Festival at Barton Hill Farms.
5 - Involve into Celtic culture during Austin Celtic Festival
This annual festival, held on November 2 & 3 at Pioneer Farms, reunites the best of Irish, Scottish and Breton culture. Watch Highland games, listen to an extraordinary lineup of live music, and learn some Celtic dance moves. For more details visit www.austincelticfestival.com.
6 - Get spooked at one of these Halloween celebrations
Nothing screams more Halloween than visiting a Haunted House. One of the most famous in the city is the House of Torment. From September 27 to November 9, you can enter a world of horrors where lights are off, and watch your worst nightmares come to life.
If you're more in the mood for a spooky walk, you could join one of the Austin Ghost Tours and see some of the most haunted places in town. It's an amazing opportunity to discover that eerie side of our city.
7 - Watch the dazzling Texas fireworks at Dia de Los Muertos Celebration
Enjoy this Mexican holiday that remembers loved ones who have passed away, by being part of an amazing pyrotechnics spectacle at Kreig Softball Fields. Visit www.planetktexasfireworks.com for more details.
You could also experience the colorful vibes of this celebration by attending the 36th annual Viva la Vida Parade & Festival, on October 26 at the Mexic-Arte Museum.
8- Try everything pumpkin-based
We are not going to lie, one of the most enjoyable things about Fall it's all the delicious seasonal food you can find. At Austin, you can learn to taste every part of the pumpkin, and we suggest you try the famous pumpkin pancakes at Kerbey Lane Cafe or some homemade pumpkin ravioli at Andiamo Ristorante.
9 - Update your to-read list at the 2019 Texas Book Festival
There's a common proverb that says "A reader lives a thousand lives," and if you like to collect some new literature findings, the Texas Book Festival will be the right place for you. This annual festival is known as one of the largest and most prestigious literary festivals in the country. It features more than 200 recognized authors, hundreds of exhibitors, live music, local food trucks, and family activities.
This year's edition of the Texas Book Festival will be held on October 26-27, 2019. It's free and open to the public and will take place at the State Capitol and surrounding grounds.
