NORTH & WEST Campus
Neighborhood & Lifestyle
The Drag, West Campus, Frat Frat city kids. We all know the terminology, but do we know the area? This area can be an absolute utopia for folks flying the coop or inhabitants looking for a place to call home at the foot hills of the University of Texas. To call out some stereotypes, before we start speculating too much; it’s true, a lot of the communities that are arising are a little large, but not all. Yes, you can rent apartments by the room. No, it’s not only for frat guys and sorority girls. Yes, deposits can be a little higher in the UT Campus area based on Property to Property.
Yes, this is one of the only areas’s in Austin that offers furnished rooms, most likely consisting of a bed, a desk, and perhaps a lamp. It may be safe to say that this area can be a little lively starting in the fall with students running back and forth to campus. However, it is not only designated for students.
Dining and drinking
As far as drinking goes, because this area of West campus branches off the University of Texas, we won’t discuss alcohol. In fact, rumor has it that most West campus residences hang out in the UT library, so Juiceland is an excellent alternative and gives a quick boost of organic energy!
Regarding dining, this area is crawling with coffee shops and cafe’s for people to pop into to for a quick study break or to cram for an exam. These spots branch off from more than just Guadalupe street which is the main drag, “no pun intended” that travels almost the entire length of the University of Texas. One of Austinites favorite gems is The Spider House Ball Room. The hipster influence will be noticed from a mile away, but it’s not only for hipsters. Poets, philosophy graduates, musicians, painters, bartenders, and photographers hang out there also.. Oh wait..?
Apartments and Accessibility.
The biggest claim to fame is West Campuses proximity to UT. You can see a lot of biking happening through out the area and because of its closeness to the College, there are a few buses, but majority or residents are so close they are not reliant upon motor transportation. Options in the UT area can vary dramatically regarding size, price, and finishes. You can find anything from Studios that are 300 sqft renovated 30 years ago to huge 1/1’s with stainless appliances and granite counter tops! If you are also looking for an alternative option, Central Austin and the lower east side could be great places to check into also!
